TEXAS! TEXAS! TEXAS! PT 1 - El Paso

You’ll know when you're in Texas because everyone around you will be constantly talking about Texas.

See all that behind us? That's the border crossing to Mexico.

All the signs you read will remind you that you are in Texas. Songs on the radio? All about Texas. It’s the home of unsavory exes (we all know that) and the air smells like hot smoked meat. Yee-Haw!

You’ve probably pieced together that my husband and I are not actually on the road at the moment.

You are a genius, my baby. I’ve been writing these bloggy posts back home in Cleveland. We took this trip in June ‘21. We were freshly vaxxed and desperate to see something beyond the walls of our house.

Teach the children about the classics.

Although the walls of our house do include a karaoke lounge in the basement and that does help pass the time.

The world was just starting to open up. Things felt hopeful. Now it’s August and things don’t have the same shine they did in June. Before leaving New Mexico, Ben and I got very blazed in our hotel room and jumped on the bed to Jesus Jones’ “Right Here, Right Now.” That’s how hopeful we felt! We didn’t jump for long . We are middle-aged and knee injuries after 40 are no joke.

This is also the night Ben purchased this fine Sagittarius pendant in the hotel gift shop. We did this Sensitive Sag-man photo shoot. Sagittariuses are very sensitive people with the mind of a human and the genitals of a horse. #HorseParts

A Sag-man pondering his horse parts.

But let's pretend things are not on the precipice of the Delta variant and this summer is going just as we all had hoped, okay?

This post is about Texas!

We made it to El Paso and the Southern Border

of the United States. I think that’s pretty cool since we started at the Northern Border. Making this officially a cross country trip!

El Paso isn’t usually talked about in travel blogs but it should be! The food is really good. I highly recommend a trip to Chico’s Tacos . Yes, the cheese has changed which is something my step-dad takes great issue with. You can read all about the great cheese debate in the above link.

Rolled tacos at Chico's!

TL:DR It used to be more like Velveeta but now it's cheddar.

I'm a true hot dog enthusiast and highly recommend Doggos on Alameda. Their internet presence is limited and you'll probably wonder if you are in the right place when you get there but it's worth it. The hotdogs are truly unique.

The hotdogs have beans ON them!!!

There is really great shopping along the border crossing in Downtown ELP. Ben was still excited about his recent Sag-man pendant and had become more determined than ever to find masculine accessories. Shopping here is a great place for the fancy-man in your life to buy bedazzled blue jeans, snake skin cowboy boots or a fine hat.

Something should be in bold here!

You can also shop for purses, religious statues, sound systems, socks, underpants with butt-pads in them and tight clothes to wear over them. I like to stock up on hoochie clothes when I’m in downtown ELP. It keeps the marriage exciting if I’m dressed like a ho around the house.

A word of caution: Do not cook in your “Ho at Home” ~lewks~ These fashions are highly flammable.

Moving on from the Borderlands, we are headed to Austin. Y’all, it’s a lonnnnggg-ass drive to Austin from El Paso. It's some “...sun has risen and the sun has set but we ain’t outta Texas yet” shit. You could stop in Marfa and see that dang ol’ Prada Store. You’ll be adding an hour or so to your trip but it’s fun to see. Bring road snacks. There is not much in the way of food between the two cities. Especially in COVID times.

This is an old photo. R.I.P to my lil' Ripley baby-dog.
